Learning difficulties are sometimes confused with mental illness, although the two are very different.  Learning difficulties usually exist from birth or are caused by brain injury.  Mental illness can happen to anyone at any time, including people with learning difficulties.

In Powys the first point of contact for assistance is the local Social Care Services area offices which will be able to provide a range of support services (see SOCIAL CARE SERVICES).
