Community Health Councils call for members

INFORMATION FOR VOLUNTARY SECTOR ORGANISATIONS WHO MAY BE INTERESTED IN NOMINATING MEMBERS

There are two Community Health Councils (CHCs) in Powys:

  • Montgomeryshire

  • Brecknock and Radnor

CHCs represent the interests of patients and the public in the health service in .  They have an important job to do in making sure that patients’ voices are heard in the planning, delivery and improvement of health services.

CHCs are made up of members from all walks of life who bring something of their own experience to the work of the CHC.  One half of the members of CHCs are appointed by the Minister for Health and Social Services, one quarter by local authorities and one quarter by the third (voluntary) sector.

Powys Association of Voluntary Organisations wants to ensure that voluntary organisations in Powys are well represented in the membership of the two CHCs.  We are looking for new people to nominate now.

If you would like to make a positive difference to health services and to people’s lives, then please consider putting your name forward.  Members are expected to be available for between 3 and 5 days a month.  You will need to show that you:

  • Have a genuine interest in improving health services for the community;

  • Have experience of living or working in the CHC area;

  • Are willing to work as part of a team;

  • Have an understanding of a diversity of backgrounds and opinions

  • Have an understanding of handling confidential information

  • Are able to suggest ideas and solve problems

The roles are unpaid but expenses are paid and it may be possible to claim for actual loss of earnings.

If you are interested in this exciting opportunity, please contact:

Trish Buchan or Sorelle White Health and Social Care Facilitators PAVO hscf@pavo.org.uk or phone 01597 822191
