Community Powered-Health: Supporting Better Outcomes for All Ages

23 October 2018

Time:  6.00 pm – 8.00 pm

Tŷ Hywel, National Assembly for Wales, Cardiff, CF99 1NA
Loneliness and isolation are high-priority issues in Wales, reported to affect 1 in 5 adults* across the whole population. How can we work better with local communities to improve their capacity to tackle these issues and improve health outcomes for all ages? In doing so, how can we ensure that disadvantaged groups, including those in more rural areas or in more difficult economic circumstances, are not left behind?
*Samaritans Cymru 2017 survey

On 23 October, join award-winning timebanking social enterprise Spice to explore how these challenges can be addressed through increasing participation in communities and building voluntary sector capacity and resilience. As part of the conversation, Spice will be sharing examples of impact from its Active Ageing project, funded by the Welsh Government’s Sustainable Social Services grant to connect older individuals across Wales with opportunities to contribute to their community and be recognised for their time.

Welsh Government Minister for Children & Social Services, Huw Irranca-Davies, will introduce the discussion and formally launch a public consultation on the issues of loneliness and social isolation in Wales.

Confirmed speakers so far:

  • Spice CEO Ian Merrill
  • Claire O’Shea, Campaign Manager for Wales, Campaign to End Loneliness

Spice is 10 years old this year! The event will mark the Wales launch of Spice’s new 5-year strategy and new name. Join the team for drinks and networking after the event discussion
