Mental Health First Aid (Adults)

16 September 2019

Aim

This programme has been supported and endorsed by the Assembly Government as part of its strategy for the promotion of good mental health and prevention of suicide.

As with the general concept of “First Aid” this programme is not intended for specialist mental health practitioners. Anyone in their everyday life may come across someone who needs immediate care while specialist care is sought or to assist the person in seeking out help for themselves.

Relevance to Children’s Services

The programme does not cover the immediate care of children but it will still be very relevant for staff in children’s services that inevitably come in contact with family members and other adults who may have mental health problems.

Key Learning Outcomes

  • Improves mental health literacy.
  • Recognise the signs and symptoms of someone with mental health problems.
  • Respond, engage, support and signpost people to appropriate professional help.

Venue

Neath Port Talbot College – Newtown campus.
