Battling the Odds – Armed Forces Gambling Harms Network

December 10 @ 10:00 am - 11:30 am

FREE training of the Battling the Odds programme. The workshop is open to all and is part of Ara’s work with the Armed Forces Gambling Support Network.

Research indicates that veterans are 8 times more likely to experience gambling related harms and research of serving personnel with RAF indicates that between 2-5% believe gambling is an issue for them.

The workshop aims to raise awareness of the issue of gambling related harm within the armed forces community, developing a multi-agency approach to support those impacted.

Ara is the regional provider of National Gambling Support Network to both Wales and the Southwest, providing free and confidential information, advice, and support to anyone impacted by gambling harms including loved ones.

The objectives of the Battling the Odds programme are:

  • To develop the understanding and knowledge of learners regarding gambling related harms within the armed forces community.
  • To reduce the stigma of gambling harms across the armed forces community and in doing so promote a culture that encourages access to appropriate specialist support.
  • To increase the numbers of members of the armed forces community, at risk of gambling related harms, in accessing the National Gambling Treatment Service
