Trauma-Informed Wales

Whilst attending the Royal Welsh Agricultural show a couple of weeks ago I had the pleasure of meeting up with Bryony from Trauma-Informed Wales. I was eager to follow up with her to find out more about the Trauma-Informed approach and the Framework that has been co-created with people with lived experience, professional and advocates.

The information in the article below is directly from the Trauma-Informed team and well worth a read. How amazing would it be if kindness was indeed the norm!!

The Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE) Hub Wales, established in 2017, is hosted by Public Health Wales, and funded by the Welsh Government and aims to prevent, and mitigate the impacts of ACEs and trauma. ACE Hub Wales and Traumatic Stress Wales co-lead the implementation of the Trauma-Informed Wales Framework, which launched in 2022 and sets out how Wales can become a trauma-informed nation. Trauma-Informed Wales is a collaborative movement of people who are striving for societal change. The core of the implementation focuses on co-production and co-delivery to develop a social movement of compassion, promoting and leading relational systems and societal transformation.

Delivering a Public Narrative for a Trauma-Informed Wales. This narrative sets out a vision for a Wales in which everyone understands and realises the benefits of what it means to be trauma-informed in their everyday life – from daily interactions to specialist services. This narrative sets a tone for how we can all promote the need for a trauma-informed nation.

#TimeToBeKind 2026

First launched in 2019, ACE Hub Wales’ flagship campaign — #TimeToBeKind — set out to promote kindness and build an “ACE aware Wales” by encouraging understanding and compassion toward people affected by Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE). Several years on, ACE Hub Wales is now co-leading work to become a trauma-informed nation with people and organisations across Wales. To help achieve the aim of a trauma-informed Wales, this phase of the campaign builds on the success of previous years by creating an emotionally charged TV advert that encourages a kinder, more compassionate society, so that everyone feels supported to thrive.

TrACE-Informed Organisations Toolkit

Everyone has a role to play in Wales becoming a Trauma and ACE informed nation. The Trauma-Informed Wales Framework sets out an all age, all of society approach for people, communities, organisations, sectors and systems. The ACE Hub Wales Trauma and ACE (TrACE) Informed Organisations Toolkit provides a practical guide to support organisations to support them on their TrACE journey and is a key resource to support the implementation of the Framework.
