HEIW are pleased to announce the launch of “The Parent-Infant Relationship & Infant Mental Health Training” Course.
This training by Health Education and Improvement Wales (HEIW) has been developed in partnership with Welsh Government and specialist practitioners and is aimed at people who are working with parents, infants and families, this includes:
- Health visitors
- Mental health practitioners
- Child protection social workers
- Early years practitioners
- Police officers
- Allied Health Professionals
- Nurses and Midwives
It is designed to help those completing the course, think about their professional roles and responsibilities in relation to parents and infants, perform a quick triage assessment to identify concern and engage with colleagues using a common, professional language.
Module 1: Introduces the training.
Module 2: Covers early critical brain development and the importance of emotional regulation in the first year of life.
Module 3: Describes features of good enough parental care that promotes healthy brain growth and important socio-emotional development, leading to resilience, capacity for healthy relationships and physical and mental wellbeing across the lifespan.
Module 4: Covers common factors that compromise good enough parental care, insecure attachment styles and what they suggest about parental caregiving style and developmental trauma.
